Fresh pork and beef! Northwest Jr livestock show

If any one is looking for some of the highest quality pork in the Northwest to put in their freezer. Perfect time to do tomahawk style pork chops on the grill. I was in the show barn all day yesterday and these are some fine finished hogs!!

Ive never bid on livestock before, so these maybe stupid questions. So let's say I was to bid on a hog and win, then what? Would i have to arrange picking it up or getting a butcher to pick it up or could that all be arranged with the seller?

cem3434, so they have slaughter and butchers set up. This is the list of butchers and the process. I just called Bear ridge to make sure and they have spots open for these animals and they do.
Thank you
Josh

Is it virtual? Not live?
We’re waiting to hear whether the evergreen youth livestock show will be in person. I see the king county FFA kids were showing their animals in person this week. Fingers crossed.

The show was live with social distance, cap on people in the barns and masks. The spring fair is a drive through. They did a Facebook live video of the classes and the sale will be online. A lot of the livestock show’s we attended are starting to open up.

I'm not sure how it is now but when my sister and I showed our animals there way back when you could expect to get about three times the usual price from all the sponsors like Safeway and Les Schwab bidding them up.

It's still that way, typically bussiness buy the animal's or grandparents supporting some college funds. The kids do a thank you and splash FB with their thanks.
Small communities its a 'who knows who' for the highest $ bids, but really all the kids do very well.
There's a floor price that no animals will drop below, but I've yet to see anything ever go at floor price.
My kid payed 125 for the hog, and 275 for the feed, so it's already a $400 hog, then add infrastructure, wormer, treats, brushes, camping, fair food, shampoo, transport, etc etc etc
Plus we lost 1 hog, got COVID-19 or something, la-200 didn'tsave it, bunch of hogs lost that year. Few didn't make weight so DQ'd they gotta be 250 to 300 wt.
Genetics and birth dates matter a lot to hit that bracket. I like 280-285 best or they start getting dinged for too much cover (fat)
It would be cheaper to hand her a $1000 bill, but that's no fun
It's priceless lol

My kids have been doing hogs for years now. I appreciate the fair doing what they could this year, but I don't think the online presence (virtual auction) was very effective. My son had the Grand Champion hog this year, he was pretty excited about that. It was nice that we could be there and see a few people bidding on the stock. It was nothing like it normally is, but nowadays, what is.
