Let’s look back on a little history. Anyone remember the Lake Washington Sockeye fishery? Hugely popular back in the day. The Cedar River Sockeye enhancement started due to the decimation of Salmon at the Ballard locks, in an effort to bolster the Sockeye population, and keep that fishery alive. What happened is typical in nature; a predator / prey relationship. An increase in prey resulted in a corresponding increase in predators.

I understand the bass fishery is popular, as is the cutthroat fishery, but they both pale in comparison to the Sockeye fishery. This is an attempt to control a non-native predator to increase a native Sockeye. Is it wrong? Is it a waste of time (due to the other predators that exist in the lake)? Only time will tell, but understand that the state tax revenue, from one Sockey fishery opening on Lake Washington, most likely far exceeds the others.

Did the bass show up when the sockeye fishery pooped the bed and that bass are the reason?  I would like to see a direct correlation on that if you have it.  As far as I know they are still running the hatchery on the Cedar and we arent getting any better on the return.  So unless bass were introduced around the time the runs crashed, I see no correlation.

For the record, I would prefer to fish for salmon over bass, but I dont agree with just deciding to clear out bass and take away opportunity when there is no clear correlation.  I am done losing opportunity.  Especially when there is no way we get opportunity back once its gone, and this state has proven that time and time again with both hunting and fishing.

Because that is too easy and free to do. State can't make it that easy. Lol

I doubt running a fishing tournament is cheap or easy, probably tons of rules, applications and fees and then you get sued by somebody for killing something.
