New sheep units

Anyone else see they're offering a tag in mt. view and the wenaha this year?  Wondering if they'd be worth trying to draw.  Be a lot closer to home for some of us.  Be easier to scout

New units can be a gamble.. Definitely more sheep in other units.. Toughest sheep country in the state for sure..

defiantly not an easy hunt, there should be a disclaimer that goes w those hunts! Lol

These will be the toughest sheep hunts in the state no doubt.  As someone that was lucky enough to draw the Butte the first time it opened, I will say being the first one to hunt a population of sheep is a very good thing.  You put in for these tags though and you better start to eat your wheaties.  I suspect there are some really nice rams that will be available to those who put forth the effort.

I know some places you could kill a sheep with not much climbing and pretty level hiking in if they are in there. Seem to frequent it a lot. I’d probably hold out for a near 190 sheep unless I turned up some bigger

I've seen some amazing rams in the Wenaha during elk hunts. I'm sure both these units with such restricted harvest will turn out some big ones...a great opportunity for the lucky folks who draw.

You cant even draw an elk tag so why the heck would you think you could ever draw a sheep tag?? :chuckle:

Great to see two of our rocky units open for draw hunts.  Good news is none of those sheep along the Grande Ronde have tested positively be for MOvi for the last few years so lamb survival has been great.  If they can stay out of trouble, the future looks bright.  We share those sheep with Oregon so have been on a rotation between WA, OR and the Umatilla tribe.   I drew Mtn View in 1995 and I’ve been broke ever since. Two lucky tag holders will have a great sheep hunt this fall!
