So I haven't archery hunted in several years and am looking to get back into it. Now that Washington allows mechanical heads I was just curious as to what people were using. I might just use the ones I have (Crimson Talon XT) for this year as I have 12 new in the package still but may change it up if I hunt more with the bow.

Slick Trick viper tricks for me. My setup is 65lbs firing a 430g arrow 275fps, not a hot rod by any means, but I still get mostly passthroughs with them and good blood trails. Two years ago my 125g viper trick penetrated my bear from the throat and out the back of the ham for an end to end passthrough. It only ran 20yds.

For deer I’d use anything that was sharp and flew well with a good reputation. For elk I would never use an expandable just due to the fact that you lose penetration and the majority of them have flimsy blades. Yes some guys are very successful with them, but I see no reason to take that chance on the sole thing that actually kills the animal.

Fixed heads are still considered the best heads for penetration and reliability. Unless you can’t figure out how to tune a bow and just want something that might fly more like a field point then expandable are for you. Just go smaller cutting dia.

 I second rad.... I have killed a number of elk with their fixed blades. tough as you will find in my opinion.

I will have to look at the RAD and see what they have. I am pretty sure I am just going to use the Crimson Talons I have for this year and the muzzy's I carry for grouse.
