Bobcat
« on: September 04, 2022, 04:36:39 PM »
Have only ever seen a couple, and quick glimpses. Do they normally have that long of a tail? Always thought their tails were really short, like an inch or two.

Yep, normal bobcat tail.  It is longer than I used to think,  quite a bit longer than a lynx tail, but still a "short" tail.

Your query prompted me to go measure the length of the tail on an extra large tom bobcat hide:  almost exactly six inches long on the tanned hide, including tip hair rather than just leather.

The tail on this one is probably average as well.

We have quite a few we catch on trail camera.  Matter of fact, that is the sole reason I got my trappers license.  I really want to trap on in the middle of winter then their hair is prime.  I'll post a few pics of ones we have gotten on trail cam over the years.

I've also thinking of buying my trappers licence this year.
I took the coarse and all that.
I only have one trap or live cage ,it is a bigger one that will fit a bobcat or small coyote.
I got a spot or two I think I can pull a cat out of.

For what it's worth I set just a single trap last year and caught a cat 🐈
