Anybody here cast surf rods?

I was given an 11 foot okuma by a buddy and threw on a giant Diawa spinning reel and was hucking 3oz lingcod jigs off the rocks this weekend and it did fairly well for what I was using it for however it’s a telephone pole of a rod, literally felt like I was swinging one, but it had the distance and lifting power I needed and was quite surprised, and would like to get a higher performing rod with more feel and perhaps something lighter weight (physically, not action) and was thinking an extra 2 or 3 feet on the end would give a little extra reach to stay away from rocks and kelp upon retrieve. Lots of similarities casting from the rocks for lings as fishing stripers in Massachusetts or off the rocks in Hawaii.

Looking for medium to heavy action 12-15 foot spinning rod rated up to 65+lbs braid

Thinking it might be fun to do a run-n-gun camping/fishing trip out on the coast/peninsula this summer and also want something to lob cut plug herring under a large float for silvers and want a rod that can do big stuff.

I realize this style of rod isn’t very popular around here but I’ve had some experience with the type in Hawaii and on the east coast and see an advantage

I figure that would be an advantage for helping get the fish away from t the rocks. I went to the jetty this weekend and hooked into a few decent fish but lost wat more gear than I will ever admit.

I have a 12 foot and I find it works fine for surf but is too long and bulky for casting off a jetty.
You really have to hold back to avoid going with the pole and their is not enough room to get the momentum needed to really rip it out there.
I would prefer something shorter for casting off the rocks.

I have 2 St. Croix 12 ft carp rods.  Used them for casting (launching) 4oz cannonballs on the Fraser River in BC.  They are a very solid rod for sure. 5000 series reel full of 40lb braid and it will cast a long long ways.

I've got a 3 piece 15' Whupp'n Stick that I got from Cabela's a few years ago for surf perch.  Light weight and has good back bone to it, doesn't feel like telephone pole either. I could flip 4-5 oz. quite aways into the surf with it. I switched to a 12' Tica salmon/steelhead rod, light to medium action. Jack's down at Ocean Park usually has surf rods.

I’m thinking of doing a run-n-gun style fishing trip to the coast, probably just down to Sekiu and back fishing from shore along the way this summer and would like to get a good Arsenal figured out, probably for perch black bass lings and whatever else

My 3 piece 15 footer weighs 22oz, (w/o the reel), from the tip of the butt to the reel is 27" and it comes in handy for leverage when casting. After awhile ya get tired of reeling, it puts a lot of line out there.
