New to SW Washington and looking for thunder chickens
« on: May 05, 2021, 07:45:55 PM »
Hello all,

Just moved here from SE Texas (hurricanes were getting old). Happy to be back out west but the PNW and Washington are new for us. I知 living in Vancouver at the moment but looking for info on where to find birds (any good hunting/fishing spots) as well as any private landowners that might permit an honest, responsible, and grateful outdoorsman to access their land. I知 a professional wildlife biologist, marine veteran, God fearing American, and I always treat the property of others as of it were my own. If I break it, I buy it or do whatever it takes to make it right. I知 also happy to discuss reimbursement for any access granted. Feel free to PM me anytime and thanks in advance.

Welcome to Washington and welcome to the site.

Thunderchickens...      download the turkey hunting pamphlet from the Washington department of fish and wildlife website.    It will only take a minute for you to see that turkey hunting within about 2 hours of you is terrible.  Turkey hunting 3ish hours can be ok.  Turkey hunting 5+ hours is where by far most of the birds are.

Sad truth for me too.....    if I want any real chance at birds I have to drive miles.

You've found the best hunting website for Washington.

Like any other place, getting permission via the internet is difficult.

But there are great people and good info here.

Research turkey hunting in the Klickitat.

Ditto on the spray for ticks...  :yeah:

It's been a few years since I hunted there, but those birds are considered Miriams not Easterns if you want to go for the Slam.   There were a lot of birds and hunters then.
 Good Luck wherever you go.
