Nutria bounty

Bill passed last year that made money available to states for Nutria control.  Not sure if WA is trying to get any of it.  If they do it probably would not be for a bounty but we could hope.  Maybe the WSTA could look at it.

If the state wouldn't throw in, maybe approach professional groups like farmer's associations or any other group that would benefit from their removal. I could even see individual land owners paying a per animal bounty to remove them. Maybe a system where local trappers and/or nutria hunters are contacted by those land owners through some kind of directory. Circumventing the government would be far more cost-effective, as well.

I imagine the state would get the money and use in house or part of the university system and bypass citizens. I think that is what they have done in the past.  Or just get grants for restoration projects and not do anything about the nutria. 

US Fish and Wildlife was looking at it 10 years ago but I never heard about results.

Waterfowl groups might also be interested in this.  Between nutria and carp a lot of wetlands are being affected.

A friend of mine in Oregon used to say - 'If you set out 20 traps for nutria, you will get 20 nutria. If you set out 50 traps for nutria, you will get 50 nutria'.
He said they are abundant and he used to trap them. Not sure what the hides might have been worth at that time.

There was a time when you could get $12 to $18 for large ones. The good old days.
