Stardust bottom fishing!
« on: May 25, 2021, 07:02:10 AM »
Hope they are good, just booked two spots for the wife and I for bottom fishing Saturday.  trying to heal the wounds a little for not going to Italy.  Anyone fish with them before???  I really didn't have any other choices, all the boats were booked on that website.

I've been out on that boat several times. Cap't Johnny is a young guy who worked his way up in the industry. Works hard, nice guy, and is very fishy. I'd recommend them. You will have a great trip.

Great to here!  It’s been over 25 years since I’ve been on a charter, looking forward to it.  One question, we get to keep our own lings I hope?  I understand the bass all get put together and the meat split up, but I hope our lings go back to us? Also, does the captain switch up where people fish from?  I’ve been on boat (and most I’ve heard have hot spots) where a few people catch 90% of the fish. I’m not there to just get meat, I wanna catch fish. Seems if one guy has more than a couple limits and another has none, they should move???  Thoughts?

You get to keep your own lings you catch. If you don't catch any they just give you your limit if the boat catches enough for everyone. Usually the earlier you get to the boat in the morning is the person who gets to pick their spot to fish all day. They don't switch people around. Hopefully you get a good spot. Most the people who don't catch fish are people who don't know how to fish. If you know how to jig and not tangle your line every drift then you will catch fish anywhere on the boat.

The party boats I have been on you can watch people fish in the first 10 minutes and know who is going to catch 90% of the fish and it doesn't have anything to do with where they are standing.

Good luck, sounds like a bunch of fun!

Booze is boat dependant...most don't like it on board.. insurance purposes.

If your a puker I would avoid it... Sat looks marginal right now .. probably a little bumpy.

You'll be fine... just pick a spot mid ship to stern...but not at the stern... diesel exhaust will suck .. :chuckle:

stern is the rear I take it? Lol.   I heard the center is the worst spot for catching fish??

NOAA has the ocean looking pretty good Saturday.  5 to 15 with 1 to 2 wind waves and 4 ft swell.  That's pretty darn nice.

Last trip I took out of Westport was on the Stardust. We caught fish! Was a combo trip, and we didn't limit on salmon. I think the bite was just off as that seemed to be the norm fleet wide on salmon that day. Boat limited on yellowtail, and did not get a single ling, nor did we target lings. Was on a combo trip on the Starfire a few years back and they didn't go after lings on that trip either, maybe combo trips just don't try for lings? I did get one on that trip and a cabazon was caught. I do miss the Starfire! One complaint about the Stardust is that their is not enough seating on that boat when its got a lot of fishermen. So, once you are seated, stay put or you may end up sitting on the floor. We had a super drunk chick on the boat that trip and she was very annoying, but comical to watch at the same time. I would guess the skipper would not care about a few beers. Very friendly staff. You will have a great time! POST PICS!

Not sure what his normal capacity is, but it says 12 people on the trip sat, that doesn’t sound too bad. WSU, I like that report!!
