I never hunt here... starting to wonder why
« on: July 20, 2021, 02:16:00 AM »
So I have an area I will hunt for bear a lot and over the years it has shown a ton of real nice blacktail. I never touch the area though for deer. I hunt modern and its one of those places that has 10+ vehicles at the gate most days. But I know no one dives into this thick block that I run cameras. Its along the main paved road and the whole 150 acres or so of thick nasty starts right at the gate. Everyone just walks on by to go hunt elsewhere. I just have such a hard time going into an area that has so many people. But just what I explained is probably why I should hunt it. They get away from people in this thick stuff. Not to mention I have narrowed it down to about a 200 yard wide section of a small saddle these guys use all the time. And right by it is a stand of taller trees in the thick stuff that gives me a perfect chance to use my climber stand to get above it all. 5 min walk in, 200 yard at most drag downhill to get out.... Thinking I will just be in my stand an hour before light this year and give it a shot. These pictures are just a few recent ones and a couple others from the same place in years past. They are just what I have on the computer. I have a lot more still on memory cards over the last several years that make me feel stupid for never hunting the spot  :chuckle:

good hunting spot!

The one that I get videos on is an older WildGameInnovations model that only has single shot or video options.
The others are the chap Tasco cams from Walmart.
Had a few small issues with using the cheap ones but overall am pretty content with them.

So, I used to hunt hours from home, big adventure hunts and come home eatin tag soup, only to see a sweet buck cross the road near home.

Now I hunt 20 minutes from home and consistently fill my tags.  Sometimes the overlooked stuff is the most productive.  Looks like a sweet spot.
