« on: June 11, 2021, 07:39:02 AM »
Bad idea or not? Looking at a palomino ss-1500. Its made for an 8' bed, 1900 lbs. I have a 2017 chevy 2500hd short bed. Ill be pulling a boat too. Campers are hard to come by and came across one.

I had a Lance  815 on an '04 F-150 6.5' bed and it fit fine, weighed in at 2100lbs I think it was.  Towed a 17' Arima also and all was good.

The center of gravity may be too far back, and behind the rear axle.
This may not be a big deal until you add the tongue weight of the Boat to the equation.

You might also check with your insurance company about what happens to the coverage. Doesn't sound like a great idea at first glance.   :dunno:

4 feet past the rear axle would be illegal I think, not sure if it would hang out that far.

The center of gravity on thst camper is 45” from the front. If that’s behind your axle, it can cause safety problems, especially when you hook your boat up. Also keep in mind you’ll need at least a 3’ hitch extension.

Sold my long bed camper to a short bed truck owner and it was fine. They make campers
That work on both long and short beds so don’t see the issue.

Well the salesmen told me it should be just fine :dunno:

Jk, thanks for the input. BTW if anyone comes across a lightweight pop up camper for a short bed let me know
