There were so many in the Dungeness River a few years back that the schools upstream depleted the oxygen and it was killing the later running fish.

It was fun watching a Big King work it's way through the rocks back in the early 80's on that river!  :)

Not when I was a 8yo wearing hip boots working my way across those same rocks... that was terrifying!

Morning. Thinking about inviting my dad out for some humpy slaying. If you could pick one week to guess the run peak for timing when would it be. 3rd week in August maybe? Area 8-2 and 9 is the target zone.

Thanks

I'd want to make sure my fish were chrome and I'd target after the 15th of August and try to be on the front two thirds of the run.  This may be a hot dry summer and the fish will hang up in the cooler saltwater.  They do "change" in saltwater.

I haven't heard of many yet.  A few here and there.  The creel reports don't seem to show much either, even out in the Straits.

They are loaded up out at Neah bay with some tickling in to Cq..
Tons of bait so they are in no hurry...need some weather to get the itch to move in by big numbers..

I would say 2-3 weeks they should be into the sound. Sept will be full wide open..

Makes sense.  We need some rain.  I can remember other dry summers where the kings and coho loaded up out there and waited as long as possible before they zipped up the rivers.  Made for lousy fishing in the Straits and Sound.

I don’t know if many fish are in yet but Humpy madness has officially hit the Mukilteo launch today.  Parking is overflowing; just about any boat that can float is being put to use.  At least a dozen boats are fishing in area 8-2.

We get pinks in our creek in Monroe.  So far none have made an appearance.

Interesting… I didn’t think 8-2 was open yet?

8-2 is not open till the 14th but those people could be crabbing or fishing for something else. Who knows.

Humpy timing?  I think if you wait till the second week of September in area 9, which I believe is open till Sept 30 for coho, you should miss most of those slimy, stinky humpies..  :sry:

Well, they were trolling so probably not crabbing, ... not sure what else they would be trolling for.  I'm just guessing they don't bother to read the regs.  I could be wrong, maybe they are trolling for flounder?

With a bit of rain in the forecast for late this week, next week could be strong.  My buds at the marina in Everett have nothing yet.
