A friend of mine has caught 2 off the beach at Lincoln park over the last few days.  Not exactly red hot but they are showing up pretty much on schedule.

Humpy timing?  I think if you wait till the second week of September in area 9, which I believe is open till Sept 30 for coho, you should miss most of those slimy, stinky humpies..  :sry:

We need a new thread for Humpy hate speech, that would be interesting.

I'm a salmon newbie, are the pinks not worth keeping once they're in the rivers? I was going to hit the Snoho when they start coming in...my boat isn't sound worthy.

Make sure you check. Last I heard the river is not open for pinks. Check for yourself though.

They are good for smoking. If you catch a really bright fresh one they can make decent bbq fair but cook it the same day.

The Snohomish is open from Aug 23 - Sept. 19.  Fish caught in the lower river through early Sept are usually just fine to eat.  If the scales are loose and they haven't slimed up yet, the meat will be fine.  If the aren't fit to eat I wouldn't waste the time and ingredients to smoke them.  Best to just release any that look iffy.

You'd be surprised.  There will be plenty of dudes in 10' bathtubs out there fishing for pinks.  Not the best idea, but if you pick the right day and launch you can do fine.

You will get about a 90 percent answer of "their not bad smoked." I can tell you they are not good either. We save pinks for crab bait. I would rather eat a stocker trout over a pink. I am a salmon snob though. But they are fun for the kids to catch.

Treat the fish well when you catch it and you will be surprised how good a bright pink will taste.
Bleed the fish properly and put it on ice right away. They are a wonderful underrated fish and excellent for the smoker or the table.
