« on: October 31, 2022, 09:20:29 PM »
Heading back over Wednesday, opening day for my 346 cow tag.  I did Spend this past Saturday and Sunday over ther for the general season opener.  Sure didn't see many elk hanging in camps.  What have you guys seen that have been hunting over there so far the past few days?

Much snow up there yet?  We're headed over to 346 tomorrow night.

Not many unicorns there but you should be able to get on a cow provided the orange mob hasn't driven them underground.

I'm not in 346 but I am in a bordering unit. Haven't seen but one truck since last weekend and today two drove past camp while I sit here eating lunch and trying to warm up. Still some snow on the northern slopes, southern slopes are mostly bare. Bring your warm clothes! It's colder this year than in has been in the last several seasons I've been up here. This is the first day the ground has stayed frozen. I've seen some cows here and there but not a ton. Elk were vocal the first part of the week but they seem to have quieted down more recently. Or maybe I'm just such a terrible elk hunter they have begun avoiding me haha
If you see a spike send him my way, please.

We have been in 346 since Tuesday.  Hunted hard yesterday, and this morning.  Have seen elk sign and lots of tracks in the snow, but that's all.  Very few reports of hunters seeing critters........even up high.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we didn't get up in 346 until mid Friday the 4th. We were camped just above the "Y" where 1902 and 1921 come together, about 1.5 miles below Sand Creek campground.  When the wind storm came through on Friday night, it brought 5 huge trees down right near our camp.  4 of them were across the road blocking our exit out.  So at 0130 we fired up the chainsaws and started clearing out the fallen trees.  We worked on it until about 0400 and got the roadway cleared out.  We then hitched up our trailers and headed to lower ground.

That wind Friday evening was something else. It pushed my 5th wheel 3 to 4 inches sideways off of the pads I had the front jacks positioned on. Insane...

So if any of you cats were at Sand Creek or above, and coming down after the morning of the 5th, and saw the sawn up logs near the road before the "Y"... that was us.  We worked our asses off in that wind and rain/snow mix.  LOL...  :)

We were camped at Squaw Rock.  We saw the weather reports for what was coming, and packed up and left Friday about noon.......didn't want to have to deal with Snoqualmie Pass, pulling a trailer in the snow.  Glad you made it out safely.

Thanks man.  :)  Snoqualmie was pretty easy going when we went west.  But heading east Friday morning early, it was closed at North Bend due to spinouts and collisions.  So we just got in line, kicked the seats back in the truck and took a nap until it opened up.

Wow. Sounds like we got out of there just in time. We camped further down on the 1921 but we pulled out Thursday. Glad everything worked out and good on you for getting that road open

I got lucky and killed my cow on Wednesday. I reluctantly packed up on Friday during the rain to avoid the wind and it looks like I made the right call.
