204 Okanogan East, Help request
« on: June 10, 2021, 03:15:53 PM »
So My Rookie hunting partner got lucky and drew the 2nd deer tag for this area. (Doe tag)
If anyone could point me in the direction of roads or a good starting point, It would be much appreciated.
I have never been there before. We mostly hunt for blacktail Near the town of Morton and also Mule deer up around Cle Elum. I have never hunted whitetails before. seen a few while hunting turkey near colville.
He's a new hunter and has yet to harvest a deer. needless to say he's pretty excited.
Feel free to look at my other posts to verify that I am a contributer to the forum.
I plan to use this thread to build the story of how this all turns out.
Thanks in advance to all that help.
If you would like to PM instead I totally understand.

That should be a quick tag to fill.

This exactly....Just find some state land on ONX/Basemaps and go knock one down. Whitetails are extremely sketchy and cracked out so they ran far and fast......

So how many points did your rookie hunting partner have to draw this tag?  My buddy had nine points for it and still didn't draw the tag.  Regarding where to go?  Plenty of whitetail does around, but in the hills you will find them and Muley's in the same areas, not together so much, but crossing the same areas.  Tell your buddy that Muley will stand and stare for long periods of time, that whitetail will head for the hills in a split second.  Make darn sure you have a whitetail in the cross hairs not the muley.  Also plenty of National forest land in that GMU.  If looking for that whitetail tag I would look for huntable land that isn't to far off from some of the farming fields, they sure like to head down for chow at night then back to the woods for the day.

Look up the state land by lightning creek. Lots of luck in that area. Also around lake Bonaparte.

Shouldn’t have an issue filling the tag around Bonaparte

I am sorry your buddy didn’t get it, I wish I knew how this system works. It doesn’t make a lot of sense sometimes. I am the rookie hunter that got lucky, and to answer your questions had 3 points.

Just find public land in the areas mentioned and you’ll be fine.
