So i just recently picked up a marlin 60 for cheep but it of course has shooting problems and i like fixing a broken gun....thats why it was cheep

PROBLEMS....ALL FIXABLE

1.) about every 2-3 shoots it jamms.
2.) and the feed rod follower is broken. So it doesnt really work unless its all the way full of bullets.

So i called MARLIN and talked to them and they said they dont replace the follower or plunger is what you might call it. Its an assemblie item....so it all comes together and you cant buy any of those parts seperatly....25$bucks for that

and they said the older Model 60 need a conversion kit...some kind of feed throat kit. helps bullets from jamming.....and in order to use this you need a new bolt assembly and a bunch of new items, and thats about 60-70 bucks....

So all together plus shipped my marlin(glenfield model 60) needs at the least 70 bucks worth of items to make it stop jamming and i might be able to make something to replace the foloower on the rod....so i got that covered.

Is that worth it or would you call that a loss?

OLD GUN + NEW PARTS = WORKING OLD GUN......... for the price of a WORKING NEW GUN?

I would say no to the "is it worth it?" question, not if you can buy a new, more reliable one for the same price, IMHO.  If it had some sentimental value on top of that, then I would say it's worth fixing the old one.

go here rimfirecentral.com them have a forum specificaly for marlin model 60s they can help you fix it yourself (i would imagine)

well i fixed the rod...now i just gotta figure out the feed throat conversion......and whether i need the new bolt or not.

at the next gun show, you can pick up a complete tube assembly for $5 used in nice shape, take yours with you and match up the length as close as possible, when you return home, tap out the keeper pin at the end holding the locking hub on, then carefully remove the spring and follower, pleace them in your old one.

pounding the keeper pin is a beyotch to do - so be careful not to dent your tube doing it.

I had to replace two on two seperate 60 projects, taking your old tube will allow you to match up the correct type of follower (red/orange piece in the tube to push bullets).

seriously, i thought i needed a new feed throwat kit also, i bent the spring over to the right and mounted the reciever a little looser on the rear bolt, took it to the range and proceeded to waste away the rounds.

if you really want some fun, replace the trigger spring with a bic lighter spring.

were do i get the spring? i think mine might be bent slightly....and deffinantly not as strong as it probably should be.

oh and i dont have that ejector wire spring? wierd.....ill take a picture of what i got....maybe im missing something....interesting though.

thanks for that brownells site killbilly.....maybe i can take a look at the schematic they have and compare it to what i got.

interesting...i guess my ejector wire just loops back around and hooks below into the housing. Just like wthe picture in the brownells schematics but not like in what everyone else is posting......WIERD!

I think you may have the older style?  I have one, a centennial model. It's like a model 69 or something. They are very similar but not the same. Haven't been able to get mine repaired as well. Brownell's parts don't exactly match what I have and I can't find a smith to help me out.

yah mine says glenfield model 60 on the side....but doesnt have that spring....but i also heard that those guns dont like oil....so im gonna spray her out with some simple green and brake cleaner and then put a dab on my finger and only on the springs and pther parts.....

i also heard you can take a pencil and draw on the outside and put that graphite on the sliding areas and that helps....

DRY GRAPHITE ONLY!!
#2 Pencil lead works wonders also! thats the only two lubricants you should ever put in that action/reciever period.
My green rifle is a Glenfield 60 also, maybe if you take a photo of your action i can compare?

your best help is really going to be on rimfirecentral though. those guys know their stuff about these 60's.

no not missing that ejector spring. But mine does not look like the one that was in the picture you sent me from the other site...

Ill have to do some creative investigating....hopefully i can blindly get my rifle to start working. Ill post a picture of her when im all done fixen her up....
