Turkey's in Dessert Unit???

Is there are turkeys in the dessert unit. The reason why Im asking is because Im planning on making a trip over there soon to just scout it out and see whats there. And I would do it during turkey season if there are turkeys there. Thanks.

Don't waste your time...unless you like hiking and looking.  Very rare to see a turkey in the desert unit.  Not impossible.  The habitat is similar to Texas scrub country..Rio Grandes would probably do well there.  But I can just hear landowners complaining of the wild turkeys eating field corn or competing for the silage with their cattle..

I saw a hen run across Strattford rd north of Moses Lake last fall. I had to wipe my eyes. I thought that I was dreaming. They did plant some birds up there years ago but I don't think they took very well. Too many coyotes maybe. The WA. gazetteer says that there are birds in the Desert unit. I've spent a lot of time up there and haven't seen any.

The nearest  WDFW release to Stratford was northwest Lincoln County. In Northern Grant some birds moved south along Banks Lake..since there is a lack of roosting habitat.  There once was a report of some birds around Sun Lakes one year..These sightings however are rare.  One thing is that Wild turkeys can adapt to different habitats..you never know what they may like..Russian Olives Trees to roost in?  Maybe.  The Gazateer I believe is wrong!

There are turkeys around Gloyd Seeps. They showed up about 4 years ago. Rumor has it some guy was raising them and let them go. There is not enough of them to even consider hunting though. I have spotted them up a down the creek north of town over the last several years. I have never heard of any in the desert unit though.

I seen a flock of 20+ north of Moses Lake last year. I will see them run accross the road once in a while, or see them getting grit along the side of the road. Hunting them would be tough. As for the Desert unit, I have not seen any this far south. I live next to the North edge of the desert.

I saw where one got nailed by wiley coyote down by the Rookery early this spring.  I think thats closed now for nesting birds, but as stated, I wouldn't even dream on hunting them out there.

Scouting? If your scouting deer, man you must be feeling lucky. I think I'd want to know that I drew it before I wasted my time scouting. Also I have never seen a turkey out there. Closest would be out north on Stratford like everyone else has said.
