Is this real? Its hard to believe that this was really part of this survey. Could someone have modified this to stir up controversy?
It's real (I wouldn't post it unless I was sure).  I emailed ODFW and asked them to verify it is authentic and here is their response;

"Hello Todd,

My colleague forwarded me your email question regarding the recently mailed out Marine Areas Attitudes and Perceptions survey being conducted this year, by OSU and ODFW. The survey has been prompting some questions and concerns, particularly questions regarding the inclusion of certain survey questions (namely questions 35 and 36) and which portions of the survey pertain to ODFW’s evaluation of marine reserves and which are solely for academic research (and will not be included in ODFW’s analysis or reports). We have developed the attached FAQ to help answer questions about the current survey and provide additional sources of information. Please feel free to reach out if you have any follow up questions I can try to answer
."

I'd never fill out a survey like this was it seems to have been mailed to homes. It also appears to me that these folks are either dumb or intentially trying to skew the results.

That said if they are Dumb or ignorant what they might be trying to gauge his political leaning and intensity. I can think of other ways to gauge this, and a couple of the previous questions were a start.

Holy SHEET! That is scary-someone should send it to fox news they will have a hay day with that one  :chuckle:

Someone should send it to Project Veritas as a news tip. Heck, they're doing an expose on Fox News Corp now.

This is crazy. Absolute clown world.
I will check out Project Veritas.  Never heard of it.

I envy your sheltered life...

I'm curious to hear what they have to say in the FAQ they sent you to explain the inclusion of these questions... Could you share that with us?

The WDFW survey from a few years ago had some questions (nothing as far out as those) that weren't applicable to the survey topic. I wondered if they were trying to figure out what license holders they should poll or send a survey to to get the data outcome they wanted for presenting to the board. Scary what is going on.

Yeah, the reason I posted it was because the questions were so far out there.  I can't see how any of that is relevant to fish and wildlife work.

Just wow! If this is real, should open a lot of eyes of the folks who have claimed there is no such thing as a “leftist agenda”going on in our country as we speak. I am one of them, never been big on conspiracy’s, from either side, I have always been a bit on the fence, this knocked me off that fence.

Unfortunately, it is real.  If you will PM me your email address, I will forward the email I received from ODFW

The attached is the explanation ODFW sent me to explain why.  If you understand it, let me know.

Oh my.  At first I thought there was no way this survey is real.  But I considered the source, Oregon.  That last explanation you posted makes my brain feel like it's been in a washing machine.  Those people are nuts.

FOR THE RECORD - I DO NOT AGREE WITH THE LOGIC BELOW, NOR TO I THINK THIS IS A VALUABLE EXERCISE.  I FEEL IT IS A TOTAL WASTE OF TAXPAYER/TUITION PAYER MONEY.  SO DON'T FLAME ME!!!

I have seen may questions about "why are they asking these inflammatory questions?"  After reading the survey and FAQ's I see their "logic" or at least the cover story, they are using for their questions.

OSU is trying to prove a hypothesis around political orientation, and favor for or against the Marine Conservation effort the survey is asking about.

To accomplish this they need to know the political orientation of the responders.  Rather than use a self-assessment question, they decided to ask the most flaming, polarizing (and liberal I might add) questions possible to get people to react and put themselves firmly into a camp (conservative, Liberal, or moderate).  So they are not interested in the answers to the questions directly, they want to see the reaction so they can classify the responder as conservative, liberal or moderate.

OSU will then take the responses, and segregate them by political group and look for trends to prove/disprove their hypothesis.

Personally I think this is pure garbage and would boycott the survey.  I am sure OSU will use the results to further a political agenda which is something I think they have no business doing. It is disappointing that a government agency would allow such garbage to ride on the coattails of a study, but I suppose I am not surprised.  Very little surprises me these days.
