For the Boys (2009 Hooters Spokane Swimsuit Contest)
« on: April 26, 2009, 04:08:56 PM »
I needed some practice with the new lenses in challenging lighting, so that was a great excuse to head to my local Hooters one evening for their swimsuit contest.  I got there late and left early, so I didn't get all the girls.  Sorry.

So for all the horndogs out there, Mray, Bucklucky, you know who you are...enjoy.

And to you other photographers, let me know how I could have improved these shots, or what settings you might have used in these conditions.

The link so as not to offend our lovely lady members and kids

And a little sample.

Last time a buddy and I went to Hooters, we had a waitress that was about 8 months prego :yike: Yeah... haven't been back since. Kinda made it hard to enjoy the wings :chuckle:

What lens did you use for the swimsuit contest?

Canon 70-200mm L f/2.8 IS for 80% and Sigma 50mm f/1.4 for the rest.  It was really dark with flashes going off all the time and some funky spotlighting near the stage.

I would have to say that my favorites are 0072-0076, but I guess I could handle any one of them, I don't want to look picky  :chuckle:

I think you did a real good job with it.  Some were soft and I might have tried to use the faster f1.4 more than the f2.8.  Also, it's better to be grainy than fuzzy from movement.  What I mean is push your ISO to get shutter speed when needed.  Some of the photos are a bit soft from camera or subject movement.

Oh yeah, hot chicks!

Shawn, would you have used AI Servo?  I didn't try it out, and I think it would have worked better than one shot focus.

You know, I go through that question a lot with Canon.  It seems the Al Servo isn't terribly accurate but better than one shot on moving subjects.  On non-moving subjects it seems the one shot is much more accurate.  In the end I use Al Servo and live with the inconsistent results at times.  Most of the object I shoot are moving though.
