Kenai Chest Holster
« on: June 18, 2021, 06:23:20 PM »
How many of you guys keep a round in the chamber while out scoring when wearing this holster?  I carry my Glock 20 10mm which doesn't have a safety on it with it and always have one in the chamber but it gets me a little nervous. I mainly use it in Western Washington and get worried the brush is gonna grab it or I will wipe out on my bike and have it go off. The barrel is right next to my heart and while I don't think it would actually hit me  it would definitely leave a mark.

Well for one, the glock does have a safety...
3 of them actually
(trigger safety, drop safety, firing pin block)
Also the Kenai chest holster covers the entire trigger shroud.

Two, the intended purpose of a G20 in a chest holster is for charging Grizz, and you haven't got enough time to draw and fire and stop the bear as it is without adding additional steps to that sequence.

Any number of calibers and hanguns could be used on lesser threats like mt lion, wolves or humans, the G20 "bread and butter" is as an auto option alternative to big revolvers.

A handgun without a round in the chamber is an expensive hammer.  As someone who has carried for the past 30 years as part of his profession and instructed who-knows-how many shooters, I can say that I have never told someone to carry a handgun with the chamber empty.  Never understood the concept.  If you need that gun, you need it to go boom NOW.  A G20 is a great gun.  Not fancy, but goes boom every time.  I carry one with a Delta Pro in my Kenai chest holster whenever I am in the woods and I have never even had it cross my mind that it wasn't safe.  It's going to take a lot more than wiping out on a bike to make that thing go off, especially in that holster.  I wouldn't worry about it one bit.

If you're too scared to carry with a round in the chamber than you shouldn't carry a handgun at all. You're not ready yet. At least not until you're comfortable carrying one in the pipe. I'm sure some on here will disagree with that, but they probably fall in the same category. Whatever you end up doing, do what feels right and comfortable to you. But your goal should be to work toward carrying one in the pipe everytime without hesitation or worry.

I log on Afognak Island Alaska, with a kenai and a g20, and oh yeah, I'm always loaded!

Thanks guys. What made me a little nervous was I was out scouting about a month ago and I got back to my truck and my magazine was gone. I still had one in the pipe and I ended up finding the magazine near one of my tail cameras. I would have never guessed that could happen with that holster but it did. I know the trigger is better protected and I have shook my holster upside down with the gun in it to see if I could make it fall out and I'm pretty certain it would stay holsterd if I did wipe out but still made me think about it.

Odds are (especially with a G20) is the magazine wasn't seated properly.

I was thinking the same thing but would you be able to chamber a round if it wasn't seated all the way?

Ya, especially if it was barely locked in.

I have a G23 and agree that the mag probably wasn’t fully seated. Most definitely not the holsters fault.
