First Score on Trail Cam - Great Cougar Shot!
« on: June 22, 2021, 08:47:57 PM »
Found some scat a couple months ago and started tracking this cougar, nice to finally get some confirmation! I'll probably build a few blinds in the arear in anticipation of September 1st!

Any advice on how to plan on getting him? I'm extremely new to hunting but hoping to get everything I can. Thanks in advance!

@rainshadow1 is who you need to talk to

I believe he seems calls you can add to your e caller and there have been a bunch of people who were successful

He's a great guy too

Nice cat pic.   I just started last year so very little experience and no success yet.  I would recommend getting a programable predictor call with a remote.  I bought the cougar package from Steve at Rainshadow, he has some good calls.  He has a ton of call in stories on his page, I read them like I am studying for a final exam.  They are super stealthy and very observant so you can't move.  Be advised even though you are calling for a cougar you never know what might come.  That advise is more for the guys calling for coyotes and a cougar or bear shows up.  Keep you caller hidden and as far away from you as possible.  it is probably advisable to have a partner but I go alone.  From what I read they like the advantage and come from the high ground but not always.  Keep a large tree or rock to your back to protect you six.  There are a few videos on YouTube that are good as well.  Good Luck

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I bought a Lucky Duck Revolt and will probably be getting the Rainshadow cougar calls, so that'll be helpful.

And I can appreciate the notion of having a partner. When I was putting the camera back up in the woods, I kept looking over my shoulder and 'bout jumped outta my skin a couple times when I heard any noise haha.

I got in touch with rainshadow1 and got the full cougar package and a custom open reed coming. Great info, listened to one of the seminars yesterday and will do a few more this evening while I sweat to death!

All I can think about is this dang cat, now, haha!

Good luck, and keep us updated success or not. It sounds like you have an awesome season ahead of you, and possibly some awesome meat in your freezer if it works out.

There should be some good YouTube videos on cougar hunting.

Did you have any luck on finding this cat?  Seeing it in June I think it would be unlikely he hung around till Sept.  but maybe it is in a area it likes to visit.  Hopefully the quota isn't met yet and you have till April.  Good luck
