Mine is worse, the wife decided to go out of town that Sat for work, what was she thinking.....  Having me remain to take care of getting the kids and missing out on those big spots...   Have fun Shawn and hey if you get too many and can't eat them all, I got a great Shrimp Scampi recipe....

Well, I had a great day of shrimping planned.  Got the boat all clean and ready.  It's a newer boat and runs good.  Had the outdrive all serviced last year.  It started up perfectly yesterday and had it running for 15 minutes.  Got the pots, bait, beer, food, and snake bite so I was all ready.  Got the boat in the water at 7am, started heading to my shrimp spot with my 2 buddies.  Robodad and Bigiron were going to meet us and I was going to pick them up on whidbey island.  I expected limits by 12am as good as it has been the last couple of years.  Motored out of the harbor and hit the gas...beep!  Beep.  Limped back to the marina and the motor was overheating.  Thought maybe it was a piece of seaweed stuck on the intake but no luck.  All the fluids were perfect.  Crap, must be a theromostat or water pump.  Day ruined!

So I got home early with no shrimp.  Had to make the call to Robodad who had driven a long ways and taken a ferry to do it.  Seems like even when you have a newer boat, there is always issues.   

Guess I'll eat steak tonight...

That sucks man!  I had the overheating problem in Gray's Harbor once.  It turned out that a bug had made it's way into the pee tube and blocked it.  Pump worked great it just had no where to go.  There sure were a lot of boats on Hood Canal on Friday.  Great day for shrimping!

Pope,we got our limits today,Mom and Dad picked me up at the dock under the Clinton ferry and we were done by 1:00!Me and the wife sauted some for dinner,very good

Well like I said earlier Shawn it isn't a big deal, there will be other days, I did get some very cool sunrise shots from the ferry dock, check out that cloud formation !!!



We still have next weekend to plan for though !!!

Trust me I warned him that if I am invited we won't catch anything and the weather will be crap and it was !!   

I don't know what the deal is with me and luck, but it's a good thing that bad luck exists or I'd have none at all !!

I'm willing to take people out, weather and time permitting.  I fish the south end of Lopez Island.  Usually catch some bottomfish while the pots are soaking.  Can use my bigger boat if weather is rough but gas cost is about three times as much as the aluminum 19 footer.

It could ruin your success for many years to come just ask Huntnphool, I went fishing with him last year and he is still having bad luck !!! (We'll hear about it sooner or later !!)

Cohoho has to pull some strings just to get a bite anymore !!

We had a few boat issues ourselves (including a non-working fishfinder) but still got our shrimp.  Seems there's always a few issues the first trip out.

Fished three pots for four guys.  Had one pot with 116, which I think is a record for me.  Decided to call it quits at 10am just shy of our 4 limits rather than put down again for the last few.

We decided to do area 11 for the first time yesterday.  Always shrimp in Hood Canal with excellent luck.  Went to 11 because it is close and we were told they are bigger.

Poor start off of Robinson and farther up Vashon Island.  Two drops fo three pots and we had 60 shrimp.  Really regretting not hitting Hood Canal after talking to our partner boats from Hood Canal.  Limits in two pots for a crew of four plus shrimp thrown back!  Crap, wrong choice again.

Moved away from the horde of boats and put the pots off a dropoff.  One hour later we were loaded with shrimp and sorting out the big ones.  They are overall much larger in area 11 then they are in area 12 in my opinion.  Next up is Lingcod and Dungies!

We are going to hit up Hood Canal next Saturday if anyone is interested.  Likely have a spot for one.  All you need is food/drink contribution.  Leave from Gig Harbor.

Don't you worry Robo, we will be hitting the Columbia again this year. I seem to look at the glass half full as opposed to all you guys. If I remember correctly, I drew a moose tag, a Montana combo tag, harvested a 180+ buck, a bull moose, after taking you out on my boat last year. I have already drawn Montana again and have goat, sheep and raffle tickets to hope for. My bad luck yesterday had nothing to do with you I can assure you, it was the dumb ass trying to hand pull 350' deep shrimp pots by dragging them out to deep water to get out of everyones way. He was too fu#$ing stupid to realize when you tie off your line to one of your cleats and drag across everyone elses lines, you take other pots with you. After we realized what was going on, and that our buoys had disappeared, we saw him trying to untangle several buoys and lines out in 500' of water. We went to retrieve ours and the jack ass just let them all go, apparently thinking they wouldn't sink I was so pissed but had the kids with me so I had to keep from telling him exactly what a dumb fu$#er her was. I asked him if it even occurred to him that he could just as easily have taken them to the shallows before letting them go, that way people could at least find them and reset them, he said "that's a good idea" obviously too late this time though. My pots were $100/ea. plus leaded line, stainless shackles, buoys, buoy poles, flags and weights. I figure the 130 shrimp we got cost me about $450.00+ and that doesn't include fuel to get there or the bait. I should have went shopping at Cabelas instead and bought a nice new rifle for the collection, at least then I wouldn't feel like I should have drowned someone yesterday.

Oh well I'm glad you don't blame me for the bad luck you had yesterday, that really sucks and sure makes for an expensive weekend, some folks just really suck no matter how nice they appear to be.

I do appreciate the offer to hit the Columbia again though, some day I'll finally get a keeper maybe even a couple but I better not push my luck, we all see how bad that is !!!
