2023 Alaska Fly in Caribou Hunt
« on: November 02, 2021, 12:46:52 PM »
My buddies and I have a Caribou hunt in Alaska for 2023 planned. We will be renting camping gear (food, tents and cots). I was looking for maybe some info and suggestions on gear that would be needed. I know that we will only be able to take 60lbs per person. Looking forward to the helpful post.

Thanks in advance.

I know from the one my dad did a few years back to take a good sleeping bag. He took one that was the size of a loaf of bread to save space and he said it was not enough. Also see if the guide has equipment that you can rent so you don't have to bring it there. My dad was able to rent a camp stove and tent from the outfitter (don't remember if he rented anything else).

60 lbs is pretty light if that includes all camping, food, and hunting gear.

Much will depend on the time of year and location. We took bug suits and waders, and never used them. We didn't have much rain, but the wind blew 20 to 30 everyday, and never quit, so be ready for that. A good sleeping bag, rated to 0 - 10 degrees is a must.

Enjoy......trip of a lifetime experience!

If your renting any gear make sure the zippers all work, poles are all there, I know of guys who have rented gear that was no better than goodwill junk. Not fun as September in the Artic circle can be like December down here.
