Idaho Unit 37 Antelope

I drew an archery Antelope tag in unit 37. Going from Aug 30th to Sept 5th. I have relatives all over Idaho but none have archery hunted this area. If any one has, I sure would appreciate some input. I have been through there a few times and have seen a lot of Goats.

Hope you have good tires! Popped 3 on work rigs and 1 on my personal this spring and will be popping more as drew the antelope rifle tag.

Springs are drying up fast this year due to drought.

Persistence will probably be the key. Cool country and a neat place to have serious mountains surrounding an antelope hunt. In my very limited experience in that area, the antelope weren't hard to spot. Obviously much harder to get within archery range

Have seen the most bucks in the parts of this antelope unit away from Highway 93. Find the wetter areas of the unit and there will be taller sage brush in the drainages that will make spotting and stalking easier. Have seen antelope up high in the mahogany and doug fir all the way down to the hay fields in the P....... valley.

See does and fawns and a few bucks every time I travel 93, but as Jon mentioned, it will be hard to get near them as there isn't much cover besides terrain features in the valley bottom.

For sure, very lucky. It put the Kabosh on my 10 day back country Muledeer  hunt in October but I'm not complaining. Headed over to do some Elk scouting tomorrow

Thanks for the tips. It is bad ass country the way the 2 ranges take off from the valley floor. Im thinking of starting out in the rolling hills where they drop off to the Salmon in the NW corner, might be better stalking conditions. Wont be able to scout so the first couple of days will probably get high and glass.

Thought I’d bump this thread and say I’d be happy to provide anyone input if they were to draw the tag in the future. Don’t think I’ll be lucky for a while after this year on the antelope draw front.

Thanks for bringing this back up, I offer any help also as I saw most of the unit. Put 2400 miles on my truck that week.

Truly an amazing animal to hunt with a bow, they are on another level

We didn't get Bucks but had a blast and saw a ton of pretty good bucks and a couple dandys. It took us a couple of days to figure out not to waste time on un stalkable Bucks and most truly are un stalkable. We both should have killed nice bucks on the last couple of days. I made a stalk on 4 Bucks and got to 40 yards but got busted trying to make the shot and didnt get shot. We both got with in 30 yards a couple of times. I think I belly crawled more in this week than I have my entire life

We ended up hunting more in the rolling hills where we had more terrain breaks and we got on some good bucks and everyone else was hunting lower in the valley

We also had some bad luck on our stalks. Here are some of the ways we got boogered

Farmers
A coyote
A cattle drive
Other hunters
Muledeer
A Dwarf again

I dont know how many hunters have been screwed by a Dwarf It was a first for me

I thought that was just a given    Their eyesight and skittishness are top level. I told my buddy "they are like a fart on a skillet "
