Good day in the high country
« on: July 06, 2021, 09:27:34 PM »
Got out for a Friday/Saturday death march with my dad. Walked on lots of snow,  climbed some super rugged ground, sweated A LOT, and saw a couple bears. This guy was on a SE facing slope at around 5500'. Lots of berries growing up there! Less than a month and we'll be meeting face to face.

How about... I could see Baker?  :chuckle:  It was quite hazy and smokey which was kind of a bummer because it was gorgeous otherwise. Would have had spectacular views if not for the haze.

This past hot weekend I was also in that general vicinity.  On two separate occasions (across a five day period) we watched a boar follow a sow on a large snowfield.  He was right on her tail the whole time.  The "fought," rolled in the snow, ran around.  They never left the snow (to be fair, it was 100+F).  It was great to watch them.  Too bad they live in a no hunt zone.   :chuckle:

We spent a fair amount of time on snow during that hike and I found no sign of bears frequenting it, which surprised me. I figured I'd find at least a little bit of snow sign.

What kind of berries are you seeing?  Seems early for huckleberry and blueberry.   The little strawberries might be on though.
