Cow with 4 calves -
« on: July 12, 2021, 03:42:03 PM »
I saw a cow this morning with 4 calves with her, never seen that before.  I looked around for another cow or cows and it was just the one.  And four set of long wobbly legs running in circles.

Is it possible they are all from the same cow?

Herd animals, possibly lost their mother and she took them in? Hard to say   :dunno:

Nurse cow probably have calves grafted on to her.  Was it a dairy breed?  We grafted 4 Holsteins in to a brown Swiss a few years ago.  Turned out great.

:yeah:

I watched this with my dad once as a kid. Whole herd of cows dropping off the calves and heading out to who knows where. The one we watched had a pretty good handful but can't remember the exact number off hand. Pretty cool to watch the calves were all playing around with each other.

Used to see some pretty large nursery herds back when we had strong herds.

Saw four cows with 20 something calves two weeks ago.  The rest of the cows were feeding near by within a few hundred yards.  The four cows and all of the calves were in an area no bigger than a 60 yard circle.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

That would be a cool sight to see

You just need to spend some time around cattle. They have a social structure just like any animal that forms groups. You'll have leaders, watchers, bulldoggers, frantic panickers, babysitters, mom's who want to mother everything that makes noise, lazy stragglers who are always last to move. It's pretty interesting.
