If you ice fish in a place that can hold a 7K trailer plus the 3-4 ton fullsized truck needed to pull (it for many weeks in a row so it is worth the investment), then you probably need something that robust to deal with the biting cold it takes to freeze that much ice!!
What would that be, 18-20 inches of clear ice?
From the MN DRN:
For new, clear ice only
UNDER 4" - STAY OFF
4" - Ice fishing or other activities on foot
5" - 7" - Snowmobile or ATV
8" - 12" - Car or small pickup
12" - 15" - Medium truck
Double the above thickness guidelines when traveling on white ice
White ice or "snow ice" is only about half as strong as new clear ice. Many factors other than thickness can cause ice to be unsafe.
