Odd place to see a whitetail doe
« on: August 07, 2021, 04:23:16 PM »
Went for a drive today up the Chiwawa River Road in Chelan County. Between Atkinson Flats and Nineteen Mile campgrounds I had a whitetail doe running down the road in front of me. Hard to miss that white flag waving at you.😁 I also saw a few mule deer does. Just surprised to see the whitetail there.

I have trail cam pictures of whitetail in that area.  8-10 years ago is when I started seeing them up there......not many, but some.

Was it a 3 pt or a 3pt with eye guards?

Can't remember exactly. It was back in the mid-90s. It was small. No long tines.

Back then nobody had seen one around here.

About thirty years ago I was driving down the Dan Ryan Expressway near Chicago Ill.  It's a nasty stretch of road with industry and junk everywhere.  I looked down from the highway as I drove past a junk yard and in the rain I saw a soaked 100% albino buck sporting a nice 4x4 or 5x5 rack staring up at the road.....

There are more whiteys in central WA than most think. Entiat, blewitt pass, chelan, columbia basin, wenatchee area, Levanworth, have seen whiteys in all these areas.

Teanaway huh? I’ve always wondered why they haven’t moved further West.I’ve been going up that way for 25+ years and never saw a whitetail in person or on camera. I wonder why they would not have built a better population if they were there then. They  sure seem to multiply like rabbits anywhere there isn’t a huge wolf population which there is now but wasn’t 35 years ago. Maybe the farmers in the valley didn’t like them

We ran into a farmer at that little store in the valley and he was begging hunters to shoot them all. I was after mule deer and took a pass on the whities but a guy in our group took him up on it and shot a little 3 point on his land. I’ve almost hit a whitetail doe on the way back to camp at night.  I haven’t hunted that area since about 1988 so I have no idea if they are still around or not
