Wenas vs. LT Murray
« on: August 13, 2021, 10:25:36 AM »
Curious if anyone has had good experiences in here for upland birds. If so, what have you found in here? elevations etc. I'm not looking for any secret spots, but just some general guidance for someone trying to get into the sport, and have a fighting chance of finding a bird to keep his birddog happy.

I live in NB, and I'm thinking these are the nearest areas that might produce consistently? But feel free to throw something else out there.

Plenty of quail in the low lands. Some chuckers high. Pheasants - not really. Overall probably better off driving the extra miles to grant county.

I hunted LT Murray when I lived in Ellensburg. I ran into quail and Grouse but they were few and far between. You will probably have much better luck elsewhere.

Love to tell you to go elsewhere, but I wont. Depends on what you are looking for. The Wenas has been real steady for huns and chukar for myself. Quail seem to pop up in the strangest of places. It is a huge area with more room than you or your dog could roam in many seasons. Stare at a map long enough, and a number of good places will become obvious. Have never run into another person. Bring good legs and plenty of water for das Hund. Good luck!
