Youth Pheasant

Anyone taking a youth out that has no dog? My kids are grown now but I'm still looking for a reason to get my pointer out for warm ups. Friendliest dog you'll meet with rock solid points makes for great shooting for two guns. Scatter Creek, Sunday the 19th.

Hi Metlhead,
I’ve been trying to get my 14yo Son out Pheasant Hunting first year for us. He got his first a few weeks back when we were invited by hunters with dogs to join them.we’ve gone on our own but no luck in the nearby release areas which are pretty covered by hunters with dogs.
I joined this forum to try and seek out guides…we’re trying to get out as much as we can in the west side before the season ends…
Are you available?
Best regards,
Michael

Thank you for the contact. Unfortunately, we were only able to accommodate the youth opener. Regular season can be extremely difficult for long running pointers on the release sites. Sounds like a wonderful excuse to get a new pup.

Well give me a few days to get home, check my calendar, and respond! Wow time has flown by. Just read the post about dove hunting and was caught off guard by September's arrival.

I'm bummed I'm going to miss youth season this year. My dad has an elk tag, so can't complain, but my kids and I were really looking forward to this hunt again this year. Last year was our first time and we had a blast!

This will be my sons 3rd year for the youth opener. We will be camping and hunting the Swakane release site North of Wenatchee. We have no dogs but have been asked to join older solo hunters on the general opener but their dogs were just as seasoned as them so it really wasn't an enjoyable experience. Either the dogs just wandered about not really looking for birds or the hunter handled his shotgun like Barney Fife (1 in particular scared my son and I getting muzzled repeatedly).
I'd love to have my son partner with someone who has a dog who will work the birds. He and I have watched others from afar with great enjoyment to see a good dog work and hunter be successful. He is 14 and already has saved nearly $300 towards a bird dog of his own.

Very fond memories of chasing roosters around Yakima in the late '70s and early '80s as a kid with my dad and his buddies. Great times with incredible numbers of birds. No packing for me on this hunt. Just want a youth to have a great opportunity. Also love showing off Das Panzer😁 He cleaned up on the chukar out there today.

I've done some upland 15+ years ago on the Rez but the birds were far and few and if you got on any they were very flighty usually 50+ yards away. I also didn't like showing up on a property marked "Feel Free To Hunt" on the map only to have the parcel posted no hunting/ no trespassing and gates all locked up.

That map trumps any other sign as far as I'm concerned. Tribe has let the wildlife program fail concerning small game. No money in it these days with a casino making the big $$. Still their responsibility to provide up to date literature.
