Everett area, late season crab spots?
« on: August 18, 2021, 05:26:09 PM »
I will be headed up to Everett area for the last week of the season. A few weeks ago I didn't do so well south of the Camano Island State Park along Camano Head (West side). Hat/Gedney didn't work out too well, especially since I had to stay in the area to run off thieves (which I did).

Anything better up there? Baby Island? Others?

I need just one more hunt and I'll be satisfied ... Really! Just one more...

Yeah, last year and this year have some epic numbers of pots out for sure.  My best advice would be to go somewhere not known that doesn't have pots.  Just keep trying and moving and you should be able to find some.

From my experience, by this time of year it's pretty slim pickings in the popular areas out of Everett in addition to people dropping on top of you, getting all tangled up and the rest of the fun at the circus.

The admiral insists, so if not Everett (day trips from the area) it will have to be somewhere else. Maybe between Port Ludlow and Port Townsend? Haven't seen many pots there this year, so there's no crab or no crabbers.

I need just one more hunt and I'll be satisfied ... Really! Just one more...

Lots of places out of Everett that aren't hit too hard.  95% of the people go to one of a handful of spots, just stay away from those.

Go to Navionics, scan shorelines for places at the depth you want to target and then place some waypoints and spend the day checking them out one by one.

Not sure about the others who are chiming in, but based on my last couple outingsmin 8-1, another issue to be aware of is that the proportion of soft shells is increasing.

8-2 is even worse with a late summer molt.

8-2 was bad 2 weeks ago for softs.  It seems to have improved a bit as of Thursday.  I wish I would have snapped a pic of one of the softs on Thursday.  This thing was epically large. I didn't measure it but it had to be 8.5+.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice
