6.5 PRC Load Data

Anyone with a good recipe post it up.  I have an HCA Tikka Carbon Killer inbound that I need to start working up some loads for.

I have been working up a load with 143grain EDL-X with H4831sc. Accuracy has been great also have been shoot 140grain Berger elite hunters and they have grouped good as well. I just started shooting it but so far it’s a great shooting round.

My PRC spits Hornady 147s so good why mess up a good thing..
Maybe when I run out or can't find any.

I use RL26 and 140g Accubond. Just got ahold of 150g ABLRs so pretty excited to see how those fly!!

What bullet/s do you have available to you and what powder/s? 

I know a lot of guys are using N565 and the 156 Berger also N565 with a variety of 140's and they're having really good results shooting some pretty tight groups. 

With the Berger 156/N565 combo from a 24in tube they're right at 3000fps and the N565/140's around 3075 +/-

Any combo has same POi. 2,935fps, it’s crazy. .43” at 100yds.
I use a overall length gauge and back my bullets off two-hundreths.

Bullets: 156 Berger, 143 ELDX, 127 Barnes LRX, 125 Hammer Hunters
Powders: RL26, H1000, N560
Primers: WLR, Fed 215
Brass: Lapua

My thought was to work up a "heavy" load for elk with the bergers/eldx and a faster, mono load for deer.

rl26 was too temp sensitive for my liking but both h1000 or n560 will work well. N560 is gonna likely give you the better speed over h1000.  Test those primers too because I get better ES with standard vs magnum primers in the short fat cases in that prc/saum/wsm capacity range. As for bullets I'd shoot the 156's bergers at everything, toss the eldx's in the trash and sell the others

when you say temp sensitive would a 40 degree temp difference between say 30 and 70 have any noticeable effect on velocities, or would the temp range need to be more extreme than that?

.78fps per degree of temp change was what I saw with testing. I know guys I trust have similar results but I also know guys who know what they are doing that have seen minimal shifts so im assuming there is some serious inconsistencies from lot to lot. I can only speak accurately to the one batch I had. May be worth a little testing on your end because if its solid it will give you some good speed. Ive never used n560 but ive used 550, 565, and 570 in quite a few different chamberings with spectacular results. The vihtavouri n500 series powders crank. 

With temp testing its hard to really get good results in a single trip. Stuff can get weird below 30 and above 80. Above 80 is easy enough but below 30 you almost have to wait till winter.  If ive got a powder that shows some signs of not behaving I'll revisit it on one of those gross 5° days come winter

Mike has a great prc reamer. You'll have no issues finding a good load and benchmark makes speedy barrels to boot. Its a win win

I'm pushing the 127LRX with RL-25 out of a Benchmark rebarreled Mod 70.  Works good on elk.
