Fire Season Has Screwed Me...........
« on: August 20, 2021, 11:51:07 AM »
Anyway was out setting up a game cam today.
Private property ,the owner said it was ok.
But would like me to hold off on Rifle hunting
Till fire danger comes down a bit.
So figured I would set the cam up for deer season and hope conditions will be better then.
Almost done setting up ....
See this bear on a ridge less than a hundred yards away.
Because of the owner wishes ,I didn't even have a gun with me.(First time ever I think).I always carry a rifle.
Anyway I just feel screwed and violated.

Goodluck to All in the Bear hunting woods.!!!

I feel the same way. If the DNR doesnt open their land up soon, I am scared the archery guys will concentrate so heavily on forest service land that my elk spots will get blown out and pressure all the elk to the DNR land

Well don't feel like a raped ape it isn't any better for those of us that switched to or were archery hunters the land is closed and some of us had been watching bears for a couple months to learn their patterns just to be shut out of the area. So you aren't the only one getting the shaft.
Even if the Archery hunters do hit the FS hard the shear number of rifle hunters being more or less forced into the open areas is going to require a reservation  per acre of hunting space and hunters will need  plate carrier and class 4 plates

Great advise and points guys.
I feel much better now....  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
Anyway this land owner allows archery Durring fire season.
Pretty sure that bear had already wind me or heard me .
He was on the move. Nothing real big, average size 200 lb bear.
I do have predator hand calls in my bag. There was no amount of money that could get me to blow on them to bring him back ,with no gun,and just my hunting knife.

When life gives you lemons ,make lemonade.
Hopefully the future will get better.
I guess I'm not the only one getting shaft.

Add.....
You always see this stuff when your not "hunting"

Welcome to the Club!!   All and I mean ALL my hunting areas have been burned and some burned over 3 time in the last 7 years!  And a couple of them NOW hold wolves.   One area, the last time I hunted it, there wasn't even a fresh sign of any thing in it!  The pond was also at the highest I've ever seen it and the water tank on top was full and the spring was running full bore.  Plenty of water and plenty of food, No deer or bear or cougars.
The only good tree, is a stump!

But you did the right thing and represented hunters well by respecting the land owners wishes.

True
And basically woulda had to shoot quick, knowing me I would miss, then risk starting a fire.
Yes I did the right thing.except next time I'm taking my pistol to check cams .If I'm not hunting.
Emergency only ,I felt a little off without a firearm.

Yeah I know what you mean, I never leave home without it.  Though honestly you probably safer these days unarmed in the woods than on the streets, but that is a whole different thread....

Ya that's probably true too.
It was a little creepy though .I packed a deer block into this spot. With little time to establish a site before season, and with dry weather they seem to last a while. Owner freaked about fire Fire season ,I figured I would just put that down so I don't have to be there Alot.
As soon a I rip the wrapper off this block I look over and there is a bear. I'm not gonna lie .I was like all I have is this knife :yike:

....You are not screwed. Consider this....

Washington is not a place to live in. The rents are high, the food is bad, the dust is disgusting and the morals are deplorable. Go West, young man, go West and grow up with the country.
