Idaho goat app
« on: April 29, 2009, 06:43:27 PM »
Finally bit the bullet and sent in my money for a goat tag app. You have to front the money but figured maybe this year the odds would be a little better with the tough economy maybe not as many people will put in. Never hunted goats before but figured better do it before I get to old. Now will have to wait and see how lucky I am and hope the wife doesn't find out!! ;)  nwhunter

That is what everyone is thinking.  I also put in for idaho goat thinking the same way you are.  Hope that is not the case.

Yeah my brother-in-law put in for the first time with the same mindset.  I guess great minds think alike - hopefully there aren't too many great minded hunters applying in Idaho this year.  ;)

The nice thing about it is there isn't the points group which have to stay in it.

Good luck all.  Sheep for me in the Frank Church wilderness.  I'm almost scared to draw as it will be a lot of time and money...

I was thinking about going for a moose permit there.   Just trying to figure out how I'd pack one out.  There are always left over permits in there and OIL doesn't apply there for those.   Not sure I have anotehr $1800 and that big of cahones.

No kidding, the Frank Church is the definition of rugged AND remote. No Idaho for me this year, can't cough up the $$$ with two young kids. Did throw in for Montana's big 3, almost no chance of drawing but at least I'll get my 4th bonus point for what ever that's worth.

17 or 12 videoman.  Moose are hard to find in that unit unless you have a knack for it.  One guy recently reported seeing 2 moose in there over the course of 4 weeks.  Of course, there are moosy areas to be and elk type areas.  I hear a lot of people say that moose are hard to find in these units and it's due to the recent wolf population explosion.  I don't believe that as much as the average guy because when I drew a 17 tag 10 years ago it was hard to find moose in there at times.  Sounds like not much has changed unless you know where moose like to hang or go find them...

Besides, if you strike out of moose you will probably tag an elk, deer, and bear in the meantime...

Better get some horses though Bone.  20 miles minimum.
