338 WM 210 TTSX
« on: August 23, 2021, 11:22:29 AM »
Need to work up a load for an M77 338 win. and 210 TTSX. CCI 250's, Powders on hand are H4350, H4831SC or RL19. Which powder should I start with? Fairly tight on components (and time) so don't want to burn up a bunch of extra if I don't need to.

I did too.
Stop shooting and sold the 338 because it was very nice early 80’s Ruger with nice blueing. I just couldn’t bring myself take it out in the field and get it all scratched up.

I have that bullet shooting well under MOA using IMR 4350, H 4350 would work also.  I’d choose the powder you’ve got the most of if it were me

Good luck!

H4350 is a great powder, but also very much in demand from many interest groups and very difficult to find.

It's kind of a wash, I have the most H4831 but I also use that the most in other rifles. I don't shoot RL19 or H4350 in anything at the moment. If I manage to kill a bull with it this fall then the rifle is probably going back in the safe after that. Kind of a tribute hunt type thing

I have not yet tried the 210 TTSX Barnes bullet in my Ruger 338 WM. But I have shot the 210 Nosler Partition.

A couple summers ago I decided to find a load for the 338 using either Barnes 185 TSX or the old 200 X Bullets that I have.
I decided to try both bullets at the same time, one loaded with Reloder 17 and the other with Hodgdon Hybrid 100V.
Both shot under an inch with either powder in testing. I decided I liked the 200 gran with Hybrid 100V. I then upped the charge another grain and it shot as well or better.

Nosler load data for 210 Partition and Reloder 19 was the most accurate powder tested. If I were in your shoes I would load the Reloder 19 and the H3450 with three rounds each.
Starting load for Nosler was 72.0 grains, max was 76.0 grains of Reloder 19 at 3020 fps in their testing.
Hodgdon listed 70.0 grains of H4350 as max with a 210 grain bullet. Shoot both powders and then pick the one with the smallest 3 shot group and go from there.
