Cowiche bull tag
« on: August 24, 2021, 11:46:53 PM »
Against all recommendations I’m keeping my archery bull tags. Anyone wanna take any bets on if DNR opens before the 24th of sept? If anyone has any non DNR land in Cowiche that I should look at I’m all ears!

Good luck on your hunt! I feel for your situation! I hope it rains!

Your post got me wondering about the tag turn in process. I expect that there will be no effort to offer turned in tags to runners up in fire affected areas? Seems like the clock is short for DFW to pull that off for the early tags. I am curious if people would accept a turned in tag for a gmu that is closed for fire. If your points aren't affected why not take the chance? I certainly could see why someone who drew and burned points would not hunt. But if its not costing you points and you could squeeze in a hunt if things open back up in time, seems worth it? :dunno:

Sorry for the hijack!

Who said you don’t lose points as runner up ? Can’t believe that’s how they would do it  . I know they do that for multi tags but these other tags are a whole different  ball game and they better be offering tags and at least make an attempt be wrong if they didn’t .

5% chance they open  and  there is several big land owners in the unit you could attempt talking to like Hansen for starts

fyi, Hansen’s will be a solid no.  And there really aren’t any elk on there that time of year anyway

Some Wildlife areas are open, you may want to check on the Cowiche wildlife area.  There are always elk there, you just have to contend with natives with bang sticks

Natives will cruise the road at first light looking for a bull along the creek then be gone.  Go hunt, you may never draw again with our odds.  I had a blast on my hunt a few years ago.

Drove up today to check out the Cowiche mill road area as I didn’t plan on hunting that low so never scouted it, wasn’t to impressed, does the WDFW land hold elk? Really hoping with this rain forecasted DNR will open back up!

I honestly think a tiny bit of moisture is gonna open things up? And the WDFW does hold year round elk not many but some do stay in there
