Early Season Cougar Hunting Question....
« on: August 29, 2021, 04:57:14 PM »
So I was looking at the WDFW website at https://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/regulations/big-game/cougar and it appears that all of the early cougar season is closed or am I not reading this correctly.  It lists all the units then states that the season is closed.  Maybe, since it isn't Sept 1 yet it is closed until then.  Not sure I understand the logic of having a table that lists all the units and state that they are closed.

Thanks in advance.  :-)

Tim

Should change to open on the 1st. To be honest I don’t check that list until late season. Which could be a huge mistake on my part………

I think it's just saying it's closed right now. Opens on Sept 1st.

Cougar is different than most other seasons since units close at different times when the "quota" is met.  The table is a running list showing the status of each unit, so that's why they are all listed.

This list will be helpful during the late season which is I believe when the quota takes effect.  It'll be interesting to see if they use this list then.  Better way to check instead of the phone message system.
