I think we all hope he’s packing, but I think we’re all going to miss the updates if he’s tagged out!

Tuesday/Wednesday

So I know Wednesday isn’t over yet, but I think we might have some action in store tonight!

Tuesday started in the NF, and it was an effort in frustration as I dropped nearly 1800’ chasing over 10 vocal bulls, only to never catch sight. I bumped bulls while trying to get to bulls, and as a last option, when it was apparent getting to the elk through the mass of vegetation wasn’t going to work, I called.

Nothing worked.

Frustrated, I packed up camp and relocated down south to spend some time there.  Hunting the afternoon, I heard four different bugles, 1 being on private, and 1 catching me on the sneak.

Tired and frustrated, I hopped in the truck and drove the 1/4 mile around the corner, to see another tag holder Keaton.  As we BS’d, another truck came around the corner, one who had passed me moments before.

They explained a herd had just crossed the road and it had a spike and a nice bull.  They pointed in the direction it ran, and I couldn’t help but wonder if it was the same herd I had been on the night before.  With not enough light to put a real stalk together, I managed to clear the ridge with just enough time to verify…same bull, same herd, same corner.

Looks like they’ve got a pattern.

This morning I did a short walk before giving my body a rest today.  I snuck into a herd of 10 cows this morning before light, and I could never find a bull before they eventually spotted me.  I also got to 80 on a nice 6 who gave a weak response to my bugle, startling me because he was right behind me on the ridge!

But somehow he slipped out after I spotted him.

So then I gave my body a rest today.  Naps, snacks, water.

But tonight I sit, and I hope Mr. Bull repeats his habit of bringing the herd to the back corner…

Maybe I’ll try it in the morning.  I don’t know that anyone has been over there yet.

Lots of time left in your hunt, and prime time hasn't hit yet.
