I tried to go up last weekend forgetting about the closure. I drove past the sign and thought it looked weird went back and did a double take and saw that it was closed. I went elsewhere. The signs are about the size of a bumper sticker and looked like it didn’t phase the majority of the public. Lots of people going up and down from what I could see. This was at the bottom of Coleman can’t speak for how the other roads are closed. Looked like they were only keeping the honest people honest.

Coleman Canyon should be open for day use since that's all part of the WDFW Colockum Wildlife Area. Yes it's DNR land, but the recreational use is managed by the WDFW.

On this map you can see the boundary of the Colockum Wildlife Area. It's a thick, dashed grey line. DNR ownership is colored pink and WDFW ownership is yellow. But as you can see the majority of the DNR ownership is included in the Wildlife Area. And therefore should be open for day use. If there are signs saying it is not open, I would ignore the signs too.





Notice this quote from WDFW says "WDFW-managed lands" and not WDFW land. The DNR land in the Colockum area is managed by the WDFW as a part of the Colockum Wildlife Area.

Eastern Washington fire restrictions and closures
Most WDFW-managed wildlife areas in Eastern Washington are open for day use only (4 a.m. to 10 p.m.) until further notice. That includes water access areas within wildlife areas, except for a few that remain open to 24-hour use (refer to list below). Water access areas located outside of wildlife areas that allow overnight camping remain open 24 hours.

Last time my son tried to go riding up there he said  The gate at the first 90° turn was closed and had area closed signs on it. Area closed and Roadblock put up on the next canyon over, probably by the locals. Which would be the same ones patrolling and running anybody out that is going up to attempt to see if it might be open or not. He was told you pass through DNR manage land before you get to the WDFW managed land so essentially they are landlocking the open area from this end of the county. I don’t know if I believe that. Such a stupid patchwork of closures. Not that I want everything closed, but really if this was for fire danger it would all be open or All be closed. Just because Hillary left her desk one day and came over and saw a scary wildfire in Wenatchee everything she had control over had to be shut down. Maybe if she got out more she would realize these are the same conditions we’ve had every year for the last decade. And she’s not really preventing any forest fires by keeping them off this certain square mile of land when the next square mile over is open

Does science need to show that a lot of people are ignorant when it comes to dry ground having fires , parking in tall grass doesn’t take science to show these things have happened   And do happen a lot because it’s not just  hunters trying to get into woods

What about Reccer Ck Road and lion Rock area

I was camping up there last weekend and there were no road closures that I came across.

The road from Lion rock towards Liberty was in bad condition but Reecer road / Forest Road 35 is well maintained as usual.

We are getting rain for sure…
And on the closure note, Washington is in the habit of closing stuff or telling us no on everything the last couple years. I say go. The game warden cant pursue you anyways…
