I've been in an out over the past few months even though I haven't posted much. Work is tough. I hope all is well and I'm glad to see the quality of posts remaining high.
I have an opportunity that I would appreciate so me input on. Para Ordinance often makes this offer to various Military/LE groups. It is a comemorative 1911 with agency-specific engravings on the weapon. I want to know if its a good deal, and if so, which model(s) would be a really great buy.
Here's the stats:
- Model: SF-45-A or PRX745G
- Sold to us for $725 per gun (they say 'retail' is $1,150.. plus extras below)
- night sights ($99)
- ambidextrous saftey ($65)
- Flat top slide ($35)
- Custom Engraving ($100)
- Delivery ($35)
- 3 Extra magazines--total of 5 included ($147)
- "Package Retail Price $1,631"
Options:
- A true 1911: 8+1 single stack
- High cap: 14+1 ... probably a very fat handle
- Some .40 that I'm so uninterested in that I can't even tell you how many rounds it holds
- $725 per weapon regardless of choice
This would definitely NOT be a CCW gun. Not too likely to be used for hunting, either. It is mainly for investment and secondarily for sentimental reasons since it has our agency emblems laser etched into it.
Questions:
- Does having agency specific engravings help or hurt collectors/resale/appreciation value?
- Is the high cap a bad investment since its not really a 1911 (I believe all 1911s are single stack but am open to correction if I am mistaken)?
- Or, is the double stack the best investment since another ban on high cap weapons would put its value way up there?
Is this a screamin' deal or just so-so? Other ideas? Thanks!
