Found a dead cougar
« on: September 11, 2021, 08:11:58 PM »
Found a dead cougar in the blues today while hunting black bears. I glassed it up on a hillside and couldn't tell what it was because the white patch was too big to be any deer/elk. It's pretty old and rotten, possibly winter kill? It looks like a juvenile and about the size of my Labrador. Not much sign of bears/coyotes eating it since the skin is still intact.
I run trail cams in the area and the only cats I've seen were full on adults. It's complete speculation, but it might have died from starvation, disease or a territorial dispute.  :dunno:

Bad sign for sportsmen if the lions can’t even find enough game to eat

Did you autopsy the carcass?  Suspect you would have found a canine puncture in the skull from an adult male cougar.  They kill younger cats in their territory.

Hahaha I can see it now. “Blues mountain cougars are starving to death, end lion hunting now!”

As hot as it's been I'll bet that cougar is only a month old. And probably was killed by another cougar like was mentioned. If wolves killed it they would have eaten it. Wolves never waste anything...

I don't see a problem here.
