High buck success? Anyone?

23 miles is a long way to haul out a buck if You get one. Trail all the way or not. The farther in you are doesn't guarantee success or that you will see more animals. Have known guys that have taken very nice animals a short distance in but you probably know that. Scouting an area is probably the number one priority. But it's all about the experience.

Completely agree. Our usual family spot we go into the pasayten is way closer. Just something I have always wanted to do getting way back in there. Definitely okay with not having to hike that nice buck I saw out that far.

Our annual High buck trip was quiet too. Not much in the way of shooter bucks, we heard 4 gunshots in 8 days, 3 of which came from our camp, and those were for bears. One was a guys first time big game kill (right)and another guys first bear(left). We had nearly 30hrs of rain and tent time in which we laughed, sipped whiskey and kept the stove hot and ate home made freeze dried meals, chicken Marsala was voted number 1 followed closely by “grandmas chili” and beef stew

Oh I’m not worried I won’t be heading up there again. I have a closer spot that has been just as good or better. Just really wanted to hike way back in there once. Beautiful area and found some deer so I don’t mind sharing where it was.

Sounds like a fun trip! Side note, you should edit the location out. I know you don't care and that's one hell of a hike to get in there, but it is good practice and etiquette in the age of the internet. Just my opinion.

Great photos and memories made

We went in on Saturday and saw a number of folks headed out, sopping wet and warn out from trying to hunt in that much rain.  Our strategy to be in place when the storm ended payed off, and we came out with a beauty of a 4x5 (or 5x6 or somewhere in between depending on how you feel about little eye guards).

I was surprised we didn't see more hunter traffic once the weather cleared, although to be fair we did spend a lot of time down in a deep hole trying to figure out how to get out so we may have missed folks on the trails
