Idaho Bull Down
« on: September 21, 2021, 01:07:25 PM »
Well, I've been pretty lucky the last few years.  Another year and another Idaho bull down.  If anyone thinks I'm getting good at this, don't be fooled.  Its just a string of luck, a couple years in a row.

Not much of a story on this bull.  I was hunting the St Joe, spotted him in a clearcut on the first day, 300 yards down.  Blew the cow call a few times and he came on a string UP towards the logging road I was on.  I dropped into the cut, stood behind a baby tamarack, and he eventually came to 5 yards, huffing and puffing up the cut.  He looked up, saw me, and jumped away a few yards headed back down the cut, he paused with a cow call and I hit him quartering away.  A little low for my taste (I think I might have clipped a jack tamarack), but effective.  Very grateful to have the opportunity!

Picked up a second tag, and I'm going to back at it this weekend for a 7x7 I've had on camera!

You are on a roll.  Congrats on another great job.

Good luck getting on that monster!

It didn't get a lot of penetration, which makes me think it glanced off a tree.  We didn't open him up so I can't tell you for sure (gutless method).  He went about 200 yards (three big steps in that country) and bedded with a beautiful blood trail, bubbly blood.  I went in after an hour and bumped him from that bed another 200 yards and left him several more hours.  I'm surprised he made it that far with the amount of blood we were seeing.  Not ideal but happy to have the recovery.
