Goose Prairie Fire
« on: September 22, 2021, 06:21:25 PM »
Can I get some updates on fire in Goose Prairie? My dad drew “Any bull” rifle tag and was told my game department today the area is closed to hunting thru December due to fire still being activity and actually growing?
Is this legit?
Need to make decision on returning tag. Thanks!

USFS issued statement that; "interior of fire area will be closed until probably the first good snow. Hoping to open fire interior area by snowmobile trail season, depending on progress of clearing hazards, repairing access roads from damage by heavy fire fighting equipment".

Also the harvest of "fire timber" by local mills, Boise Cascade probably has something to do with closures too. Salvage logging companies don't want their workers around, in danger or exposed to hunters.

Key here is "interior of fire area".
So areas not within interior fire area, like around Bumping, Indian Crk/Mosquito Valley, Oak/Bear creeks north of Hwy 12....could be huntable, depending on main USFS access roads being open.

Still waiting for official word from WDFW.

Have the game depth put the comment in writing, then maybe it will help in your decision.

Thanks for info. He turned it in. My dad is a disabled Vietnam vet with a prosthetic and with the limited areas, he bagged it.
I’ve taken elk out of Bumping, but he defiantly can’t get into those areas.
Pretty disappointing because his years of hunting are getting to be fewer and has never drew a quality or OIL tag.

My thanks to your dad for his sacrifices for serving our country.  Keep the faith with him drawing a any bull tag next year.  PM being sent.

I believe the Little Naches is open. Be sure and confirm at the Naches Ranger District website.

As far as i heard the Little Naches has been open to everything for some time.
I also know an old timer that drew the any bull tag. I sure hope they open at least part of it for us by then.
also saw where they are clearing roads and fixing them for recreation use with the fire equipment while they have it in the area.
