Pistol Found -owner found
« on: September 24, 2021, 05:49:35 PM »
My son was off the beaten path and found a fairly nice pistol and case in the road. Obviously fell out/off a vehicle. Give a location and description - we will get it back to you.

@KVNCountryman sent me this about a week ago......
I went hunting with a buddy this weekend and he lost his pistol, I believe it it’s a Remington 1911, not sure on the caliber but we were also in central wa.

I would suggest turning it over to the local Leo in the area it was found...SN #  could I'd owner..could be stolen..used in crime...etc .. I wouldn't shop it around on the net...good intentions, but could lead to bad results.

My son is still in the woods - Have contacted 2.
Sort of.. I have one here on the line.
We are trying to get the local guy to answer his phone. Tracker can see where he is but he isn’t picking up.
We haven’t given up.

On going saga - turns out the local guy had no reception.
Called all of us back - (we beat up his phone pretty good) too bad cuz he wasn’t far from him at the time.
Now calling another Deputy.
In the interim my son will have several ride-alongs scheduled for his troubles.

Situation concluded.
Deputy contacted (finally) & meetup arranged.
On the way to the meet the deputy he was stopped by some frantic folks who lost a gun.
(described the gun to a ‘T’ along with the case having a broken latch)
My son told them it had been called in and the Deputy would have to be consulted.
Owners were pleased it had been called in. Were worried it would show up in a pawn shop & dreaded the search.
Deputy confirmed owners and everyone is happy & on their way home.

It was a lady’s first trip to shoot her new gun - hadn’t been shot yet.
One of the guys had set it on the bumper - the group got distracted in a conversation & drove off.
Didn’t realize the mistake until quite a while / distance later and was stopping & asking everyone they saw.
She was giddy and very relieved things turned out well. As we all are.

1. a lady’s first trip to shoot her new gun - hadn’t been shot yet.

2. One of the guys had set it on the bumper -

3. the group got distracted in a conversation & drove off.

4. She was giddy

Bottom line: Take personal responsibility and secure your own weapon.....if you can't manage that, avoid obtaining one. Luckily, Windwalker's son arrived on the scene to correct a problem.....although it would have been a bit better to have turned it over to LE and have the "lady" and her "guys" negotiate it's return and possibly address their level of incompetence.
