Great night clamming
« on: September 23, 2021, 10:25:49 PM »
Took my mom and her handicapped license out clam digging tonight.  Couldn't have been a more perfect night dig. For starters, we saw not one but two nice sized elk herds on the way to the beach.  I started digging at 7:30. Best digging was definitely in the surf. And the clams were right on the surface (one or two scoops with the shovel per clam) and some of the nicest clams I've gotten in a long time.  They averaged 5 inches, and one had a shell that was 6 3/8 inches.  It's hard to imagine how much larger a 6 3/8 inch clam is compared to a 5 inch clam until you see them side by side.  Then to top the evening there was a huge almost full moon for the drive home. Oh, and I got our 40 clams in 45 minutes.  Just a perfect night digging.

This is one of the 5 inchers.

And here they are side by side.  I'm guessing there are even larger clams out there for the taking this year. Good luck.

That's a B&C clam.

I'd do a euro.
