One Piece Fishing Rods
« on: May 01, 2009, 03:32:57 PM »
For spinning, if I have to choose between 6' and 6.5' in ML, which is best or are they about the same?
Has anyone tried that spider wire code red?
I will be trolling/casting and still fishing. Fishing from bank and from rubber raft.
Trout only. Maybe salmon jacks.

Thanks

truly don't think most people will notice a difference between a 6 or 6.5' ML rod. i would go with 6.5' if it were up to me.  :dunno:  longer rod is better if you're in a tube or raft for getting the lure/bait off the water for casting.
:twocents: i might even go 7.5'.
you  have to be careful with spider wire because it is abrasive. it can damage rod guides i believe. i could be making things up here, but one of those superlines is that way.....

When I was tournament fishing my go to rod was a one piece 6.5' graphite for spinning or casting.  Great all around length.  One piece rods are the best for sensitivity.  As far as line, I am still a mono guy.

I agree with Jack... go w/ the extra 6".

I luv braids in the "right" situations.  The extra feel is awesome for drift fishing or deep water jiggin and even deep trolling where drag can be a big factor.  Braid as backing on a big game fly outfit is almost a must due to the drag created by dacron when you get a couple hundred yards of it in the water.

I think it has it's place but it's certainly not the end all. You do need to adjust your drag setting and you should probably should go with a touch slow action in the road you use to compesate for no stretch when fighting fish.
