New pup questions
« on: September 26, 2021, 03:47:51 PM »
Not sure where to post this as we’re getting a farm pup. Our first puppy in 20 years. It’s an Anatolian Shepard/ Great Pyerenees  mix to guard our bird flock from predators. The breeder said she doesn’t provide any vaccines, unless requested. Is this standard? If so what would be the first shot? In addition what is the recommended series of shots? Thanks

They have shots at Tractor Supply, and other farm type stores. I use the Spectra 9. I've heard that the 9 or 11 aren't necessary all three times, but it doesn't hurt, barely any price difference from 5 for instance, and gets them on their feet for the main dog diseases. I do 4, 6 and 8 weeks, then you'll need a vet puppy check later and they do Rabies and possibly a booster.

Under the skin on the neck is pretty easy.

Thanks for the info. We’ll be picking up the pup at 8 weeks. I’ll ask the breeder to give the first shot at 6 weeks which is right around now. Then shots two and three at 8 and 10 weeks. Much appreciated

If you have one of those ice packs that you freeze over and over, take that with you when you got to Tractor Supply or North 40.  You want to keep the shots chilled on the way home.  I'd also order a small bottle of Nemex for worming.
