Want to get bear pelt soft tanned in Snohomish County
« on: September 26, 2021, 04:09:02 PM »
Hello, me and a buddy were able to get a berry eating Blackbear yesterday and I would like to get the pelt soft tanned. No head, no claws, just want to turn it into a fur blanket. I have had bad experiences locally. Moro did the hide of my first bear and it turned hard as a board in a year. I took it to Rods in Arlington to get it retanned and he or the tannery lost my hide and that was the last of it. So I'd like to find someone with a good reputation. I would appreciate any recommendations?
Thanks!

I used whidbey island taxidermy and he was great. Went exactly as he told me it would go. Is it super soft? I mean it’s floppy and all but with no backing it’s just leather on the back. Sitting next to it right now and love it.

That's exactly what I am looking for. I only meant soft as in plyable so it can do just as you have. I will call Whidbey also tomorrow.

Cheers

+1 for Fildago. They are doing my spring bear rug right now. I believe he sends the hides out to get tanned.

Another great option I have used is Centralia Fur and Hide. They have done a couple deer and elk hides. They all turned out great. I would definitely give them a call. They are a ways down south, but I believe you can ship it to them?

The real question is, how much did Fildago charge for a hair on tan?  Most western Wa taxi's are gouging the crap out of people, I took mine to a place in Hayden lake, Idaho and it was 350.00.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

Can't say for sure as to cost at this point. But it wont be apples to apples, because I am doing a rug. They ship it out to a 3rd party tannery, then stretch and rug it in house. I wont know a final cost until it is all done. But, their prices were on par with others I called in Western WA, and I know Garth does great work. If someone has the means and the time, a guy could save some money by expanding his search area!
