Hang a ring on it? Was that ever a real thing with the state of Washington? If it’s an inch I count it as a point.

Its just how we counted points back in the day, if you couldn't hang a ring on it, it wasn't counted and we never counted eye guards , with point restrictions nowadays , do not go by that logic, I repeat, DO NOT GO BY THAT LOGIC. :chuckle:

Count them all, I never understood why eye guards wouldn't count for deer but they do count for elk.  Not having grown up hunting I don't have any historical precedence to worry about.

Only count one side.  A 4x4 is just a 4 point.  If uneven, it's a 4x5, 4x6, etc.
Mule deer = don't count eye guards as points
Blacktail = don't count eyeguards
Whitetail = count eyeguards over 1"
Elk = count eyeguards, unless you're from Pe Ell

Where I hunt elk we don't count eye guards on them either.
